Johann De Silva appointed England coach
7 February 20166 De Silva Taekwondo athletes competing at European Taekwondo Championships
21 April 2016Four students from De Silva Taekwondo’s Colchester Academy have won seven medals at the TUK Championship. Charlie Hastings, Ali Lee, Amanda Button and Jess (?), all members of Richard Moore’s Pump ladies-only class, were competing at their first ever national tournament in Stratford Upon Avon, and they returned home with at least one medal each.
Charlie earned three of the seven medals that the De Silva Taekwondo Colchester team won, with a bronze in patterns, silver for sparring and, best of all, power breaking gold.
Jess won two medals – a gold in patterns and a silver in sparring, while Amanda also won gold for sparring. Finally, Ali won a bronze medal in the sparring competition.
While many members of Richard Moore’s Colchester academies have competed against fellow De Silva Taekwondo students at inter-club tournaments, this was the first external competition the women had entered. Charlie, Ali, Amanda and Jess have been training hard for the tournament at the Pump classes, and the medals are just reward for the effort that they have put in.
