17 October 2016De Silva Taekwondo athletes win more medals at Dolomite Italian Open
13 November 2016Jaymie Phow has won gold in her first competition as a Team Warrior athlete at the ETA Rose Cup in East London.
She was competing alongside five other De Silva Taekwondo students at the tournament which took place at the University of East London in Stratford on 29 October. The squad included Calvin Thomas, who returned after a spell out injured, prodigious Junior Warrior Sachin Guha and, fresh from the ITF World Cup, Ben Halpin. Some of our new adult beginners from the De Silva Taekwondo Ealing Academy also competed.
Sparring in the women’s +75g green and blue belt category, Jaymie Phow enjoyed a stunning debut for Team Warrior as she won gold. Ben Halpin also put in an impressive performance to win silver in the heavyweight sparring tournament.
Sachin Guha continued his incredible rise, winning two more medals – silver in junior green belt tuls and bronze in junior -150cm green belt sparring. Sachin joined De Silva Taekwondo as a Lil’ Warrior when he was three years-old, and he was just six when he won his first gold at the MWTA British Taekwondo Championships in Margate last year. He has also won gold and silver for sparring and tuls at the LTSI South East Open in 2016.
Coach Johann De Silva said: “De Silva Taekwondo is growing all the time and it’s great to see new students competing in tournaments. It’s even better when they win! It’s been amazing to witness young Sachin’s improvement, and it was a stunning start for Jaymie.
“I’d also like to congratulate Ben Halpin for adding another medal to his collection after he won bronze for England at the European Championship earlier this year.”
