On Saturday 11 March 2023, we are expecting in excess of 300 competitors from the UK and the rest of the World to The Warrior Open, ITF Taekwon-Do Championship in Harrow, London. Accompanied by their coaches, friends and family, it will be a very busy day!

Our expert team of Umpires and Referees take care of the technical aspects of the tournament such as officiating, but it’s our incredible team of Volunteers who play such a vital role in making sure that the day runs smoothly and it’s an enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

Would you like to join the team and help out?

No technical experience is required, so you don’t need to do or have ever done Taekwon-Do, and you will receive full training and support from our Organising Committee.

All the tasks you’ll be asked to help with will be simple, but essential. They will help the competitors to know where they need to be and when, so they can focus on the most important thing, which is performing to the best of their ability.

I'M INTERESTED!

1. Set-up

We set-up the venue on Friday the 10th March. We would need a team of people who would be available from 10.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m.

2. Clean-up

We would need a team of people to clear up the venue from 9.00pm until midnight on Saturday 11th March.

3. Parking Management

We have different queues for the people entering. One for pre-paid tickets and one for ticket sales. The queues will be sign-posted but we would like a couple of people directing the visitors to the right queue so they can gain entry as quickly as possible.The main period would be from 7.30 a.m until 9.00 a.m

4. Venue Entrance

We would need 4 people to work on the door checking the pre-paid tickets and giving out the wristbands. The main period will be from 7.45 a.m. until 12.00pm.

5. Registration and Weigh-In

Competitors from outside our academy will be registered and weighed-in at the venue. We would need 2 people to direct the competitors to the registration line and to manage the flow so the people that have been registered swiftly move to a competitor's area where they can leave their bags. The main period would be from 8.00 a.m until 12.00 p.m

6. Information Point

Across the venue will have the groups and divisions posted on the walls. This role involves pointing them towards these notice boards where they can check their division, time to compete and ring number. Their ID card will show their group to search on the board. The main period would be from 8.00 a.m until 4.00 p.m

7. Ring Assistant - Timekeeping

No Taekwon-Do knowledge is needed. We will need a minimum of 6 people for this role, one for each ring. The person doing this job will have to be permanently at the ring. This role only involves monitoring the time and helping with noting down who’s won or lost. This role can be done on rotation with the Ring Runners. The main period is from 8.00 a.m until 9.00 p.m which can be split in two or three shifts by sharing the role with other volunteers.

8. Ring Runners

This involves informing the head table what group is competing next to make sure the head table has a constant flow of draws to call up next, and to take the draw results from the ring tables to the head table so the results can officially be logged. The main period would be from 8.00 a.m until 9.00 p.m

9. Ring Management

It can get very crowded around the ring areas with competitors awaiting their call. We would need a couple of people to manage the queues and to ensure only competitors due to compete are in that area. The total coverage is 8.00 a.m. until 6.00 p.m.

10. Food & Beverage

We will have up to 50 volunteers, referees and umpires working during the course of the day. We want to make sure that they are hydrated and not going hungry so we will need a couple of people whose responsibility is to go around to the team, every hour on the hour making sure they have water, tea, coffee or snacks. The main period would be from 8.00 a.m until 9.00 p.m

11. Tuck Shop

We would need 4 people helping making and serving tea, coffee, sandwiches and snacks. The main period will be from 10.00 a.m. until 9.00 p.m.

12. T-Shirt Shop

One person will be needed to attend to the sales of t-shirts. The main period will be from 10.00 a.m until 3.00 p.m

13. Hall Management

This would involve one person going around the venue changing the litter bin bags when necessary, making sure the transit areas aren’t blocked with bags or chairs. The main period would be from 9.00 a.m until 6.00 p.m

Role Share

We would love for the volunteers to enjoy the whole day with us but we understand that this may not be possible. Some of the volunteer roles involve long hours which can be split into shifts to work on rotation. If you have a friend that you would like to do this with, a couple of you can sign up for the role.

Subject to numbers and requirements volunteers may be assigned to any of these roles. If you have a role preference for a particular reason or you have limited time please let us know.
